I have been climbing for the better part of 8 years and still loving it (although I did take a two year gap). If you are reading this blog post, you probably want to become better...fast. Unfortunately, that isn't always the case when it comes to getting stronger. Through the years, I have made a lot of rookie mistakes, ones that you should not make yourself. You should take your time in getting stronger because that is the only sure thing wh

en it comes down to it. But that isn't why you came here so what i'll tell you about next is what you can do to get a quick fix.

Some of the things that worked really well for me over the years was summed up in this article about Never Plateauing again. The article does not necessarily tell you how to train but what to consider while training. To sum it up, its about weight control by eating well, strength training, working weaknesses, failure and breathing. Each section has a comment made by a professional in the field about how it helped them get that next climb they have been yearning for. A lot of it is common sense but as you all know, most people (including myself from time to time) know this but won't actually execute this advice. Once you get the stubborness out, it all works pretty well.

I think most people that know me in the climbing community would call my style a little wild or mind you, dynamic and that is okay. It is a valid style of climbing and it's the way I like it. But that isn't to say that I don't value technique. In my opinion, part of climbing hard is about foot placement and weight distribution. This next article, written by Andrew Bisharat, is a great reminder about how technique comes into focus. It isn't about getting strong, it is about getting good. These ideas are a good foundation into climbing and anyone should keep them in mind. The sooner you start using these foundations, the better the future of your climbing will be.

Hope these give you insight to your climbing. Climbing is just as mental as it is phyiscal.
